I wanted a 6wt single hand skagit rig for bass and lightweight carp along Chicago's Lake Michigan lakefront. Ordering from Stillwater was great! The rod was competitively priced ($20 less than many of the other retailers), PLUS I received an additional bonus (get to pick from a wide selection of fly line or a few accessories. I opted for a Plan-D fly box. The rod itself is pretty good. The brilliant green blank and gold wraps glissen in the sun. It has plenty of backbone for bass and small carp, but can quickly get outgunned with larger carp. The only real complaint is the single ring to lock lock down the reel; I wish it was a double, especially with spey/skagit casting. I have the rod paired with a Redington Behemoth 5/6 reel, 20lb backing, 35lb OPST Lazar running line, and a 12ft 225 grain OPST Commando head. I use 96 Grain OPST sinking and floating tips. With this setup I can cast larger flies and fish areas with little to no backcast room.
