The first full turn of the drag knob gives you 90% of the usable drag for light tippet
dry fly or nymphing. When using heavier tippets for streamers or targeting species like bonefish or baby tarpon, the second turn will provide 90% of the drag you need. And if you need to break off a fish quickly—just half a turn more, and your tippet will snap.
But that’s not all—Nautilus has introduced groundbreaking features never before seen in a reel. For instance, the spool release cap now boasts a 15/16” (24 mm) hex shape—the same size as your car’s lug nuts—so if it ever gets stuck, you can remove it with a standard socket. We’ve also added external backing markers, with spools featuring two crossbars to indicate the optimal backing fill level for your line weight.
The Nautilus GTS was designed for line classes 5 to 8 and offers a dual-turn drag system. The first turn is optimized for 5 and 6 weight setups, while the second turn provides enhanced performance for 7 and 8 weight conditions.
In 2017, Nautilus launched the GTX, a groundbreaking reel designed to exceed IGFA regulations with a 25+ pound maximum drag. Built to handle the world's most powerful fish, the GTX was conceived as the largest, lightest, and strongest reel possible. After rigorous testing, its design principles were used to create a series of smaller, equally impressive reels, replacing the NVG series.
The GTX's signature performance, aesthetics, and ergonomics are now embodied in the new GT series. Each GT model benefits from the technological advancements developed during the GTX's creation.
A key feature of the GT series is its refined drag adjustment. While the GTX used a single-turn system, the GTS (designed for 5-8 weight lines) utilizes a dual-turn system. The first turn is optimized for 5 and 6 weight setups, and the second turn provides increased power for 7 and 8 weight conditions.
The GTS boasts several innovative features:
- Lightweight construction for effortless handling
- Smooth and simple left-to-right hand conversion
- Expanded drag adjustment range for versatile performance
- Sleek, modern design
- Integrated backing markers machined into the spool for precise line filling
- A standard 24mm or 15/16” socket compatibility for easy removal of a stuck spool cap
