Switch rods occupy the versatile middle ground between single-hand and full spey rods — typically 10.5 to 11.5 feet, castable with one or two hands, and optimized for swinging wets and nymphing at moderate distances. Switch rods are an excellent choice for smaller steelhead rivers, Great Lakes tributaries, and anglers new to two-hand casting.
