Douglas LRS Fly Rod – 7wt 9’0” 4pc

As the lakes and rivers are all but iced over here in Colorado, minus the tailwaters, I took the fly rod to a nearby park to test it out. With a Lamson Remix +7 fly reel loaded with a Rio Streamertip DC 250 gr 24ft sink tip, the fly rod casted great under low-wind conditions. I do not anticipate having to toss more than 20-25 yards while streamer fishing, so I am confident that I am good-to-go. After a quick spool change, I casted a Scientific Anglers Frequency Magnum WF7F fly line with similarly great results. Of course, I was able to punch out more line, and I can tell right now that if/when I decide to either toss heavy bass bugs or a deer hair mouse/ gurgler/etc. for bigger trout during a late-night “mousing” adventure I, too, am good-to-go. I am not sure I would call the fly rod fast action (it is certainly not a “stick”), but it is what I would call a solid medium-fast action fly rod. I could “feel” the fly line loading the fly rod’s sweet spot rather than having to do all the work myself. Fit and finish-wise, no complaints. The Douglas LRS fly rod looks sharp. This is my second Douglas fly rod. I own a Douglas DFX 5wt 8’5” 4pc fly rod too. I am continually liking the company and their products.
