Sage Fly Reels — Click, Spectrum C, Enforcer & Shift

Sage has long focused on building fly reels that match the performance and balance of their rod lineup. Designed in Bainbridge Island, Washington, Sage reels are built around modern large-arbor designs, reliable drag systems, and durable aluminum construction suited for both freshwater and saltwater fishing.

Across the lineup, Sage reels are built with a practical approach. Lightweight trout reels emphasize balance and simplicity, while saltwater models focus on sealed drag systems and the strength needed to control powerful fish. From traditional click-and-pawl trout reels to fully sealed saltwater platforms, the Sage reel lineup covers a wide range of fisheries.

Sage Click

The Click series is Sage’s modern click-and-pawl trout reel.

Instead of a disc drag system, the reel uses a traditional spring-and-pawl mechanism that provides light resistance and the familiar outgoing click that many trout anglers prefer. The design keeps the reel extremely lightweight and simple, making it well suited for modern graphite trout rods.

Click reels are typically paired with 3- to 5-weight rods and used for dry flies and light nymphing, where the reel mainly serves as line storage while offering just enough resistance when a fish runs.

Sage Spectrum C

The Spectrum C is Sage’s entry-level large-arbor reel designed for general freshwater use.

Built from machined aluminum with a powder-coated finish, the Spectrum C uses a sealed carbon drag system that provides smooth resistance across typical trout and light steelhead applications. The large arbor design allows faster line retrieval and reduces line memory.

Spectrum C reels are commonly used on 4- through 8-weight rods, making them a practical option for trout, bass, and light steelhead fishing.

Sage Enforcer

The Enforcer series is Sage’s high-performance saltwater reel.

Designed for demanding saltwater environments, the Enforcer uses a fully sealed carbon fiber drag system capable of producing significant stopping power while remaining smooth under heavy loads. The reel frame and spool are machined from bar-stock aluminum and built to withstand saltwater exposure and powerful fish.

Enforcer reels are commonly used for species such as tarpon, permit, bonefish, and other strong saltwater fish, where dependable drag performance and durability are essential.

Sage Shift

The Shift series was developed as a durable, accessible reel for everyday freshwater fishing.

Shift reels feature a die-cast aluminum construction and a large-arbor spool that retrieves line quickly while maintaining balance on common trout rod weights. The drag system is simple and reliable, designed to handle typical freshwater species without unnecessary complexity.

These reels are often paired with entry-level or mid-range rods and are popular with anglers looking for a dependable reel that performs well without the cost of premium saltwater designs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Sage reels pair best with Sage rods?
Sage designs its reels and rods together, so balance and sizing are tested across their lineup. However, fly reels are matched primarily by line weight, so a Sage reel sized for a specific line weight will perform equally well on rods from other manufacturers.

What warranty do Sage reels carry?
Sage backs its reels with a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects, and their repair department can service or replace damaged components through their factory service program.
